The head of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee, Mohamed Ali Al-Houthi, met today in Sana’a the UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen, in order to discuss the work of the organization and discuss ways of cooperation, as well as to review its activities and endeavors during the next phase.

During the meeting, the President of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee pledged support of humanitarian work carried out by UNICEF in Yemen, hoping to work with the competent authorities through the comprehensive planning of positive projects with greater narratives, especially with the availability of donors at this time as Yemen has become the worst humanitarian crisis. He continued by accusing the unjust siege and the continuous Saudi-led war of leaving them in such tragedy, and all that organizations can provide to fix some damage cannot fully cover the needs of the Yemeni family.

He also called on international organizations, including UNICEF, to launch plans to enable poor families to become productive families and to realize the importance of learning “how to fish rather being given fish”, promoting continuous cooperation.

The head of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee warned against deepening the problem in the future if a large segment of the society is accustomed to receiving direct assistance without working. He stressed on the need to put them in projects through which the poor could become productive and not solely consumers.

He asked, “We do not think financiers will finance endlessly. In the long term, we have a million households that depend on direct aid, and do you have programs to contain this problem before it gets worse? Will they be adopted by UNICEF staff in Yemen?”

At the end of the meeting, the head of the Supreme Revolutionary affirmed the need for international organizations, including UNICEF, to abide by the agreements of cooperation between them and government agencies, and to assess the previous stages and the commitment of the parties to avoid mistakes. Al-Houthi also expressed readiness to dialogue on any reservations in any agreement to ensure that they will not be disturbed in the future.

Moreover, he confirmed that moving the organization to Aden is not useful for the many handicaps that hinder the work of the organizations there, saying that what serves the country is that aid reaches the poor of Yemen both in the north and south with much positive work to do, all honestly and sincerely, as we had implemented on the ground by handing over salaries in the south and in the north without bidding.
