Yemen has been a target for about 17 countries, led by Saudi Arabia, in a military campaign that has killed and wounded thousands and left the country enduring a humanitarian catastrophe.

According to the ICRC, Yemen’s poverty rate rose to 62% in 2017 and the country is presently struggling with a shortage of the medical supplies and equipment.

Many people are wondering why the UN has not taken any serious action to end the worst humanitarian disaster in the world, present in Yemen, caused by the Saudi-led war against Yemen for almost three years.

“The UN is an utter and abject failure as far as Yemen and many other poor countries are concerned. It has become, more or less, dominated by the Security Council and the Security Council itself is dominated by three prominent members, who bully everybody else politically and diplomatically, and we all know that” Director of Human Rights for Yemen Kim Sharif said.

“Even the UN calls the situation ‘worst man-made humanitarian catastrophe’. Let’s name the man that is making this catastrophe, who has the upper hand here is a coalition of about 17 countries led by Saudi Arabia, aided and abetted by the US and the UK, leading to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide,” said Sharif.

As the impoverished Arab country is amid US-backed Saudi bombardment, it witnessed numerous air raids aiming for different governorates on March 8th, 2018.

The Saudi-led coalition launched dozens of raids on civilian areas on Thursday, and its artillery and missiles continued to shell border areas, killing and injuring civilians.

In Saada governorate, northern Yemeni border, two citizens were seriously injured following the rocket and artillery bombardment of the border district of Razih. Rockets and artillery of the Saudi forces also hit different areas of the border district of Menbah and killed vast livestock animals.

Moreover, a girl was hit by a rocket and missile assault on different areas of Shada border district. The warplanes of the US-backed coalition conducted three raids on Shaer mountain and Al-Sobhan area in Baqim district.

The Saudi/UAE fighter jets also waged two raids on Takhiya area in Majz district, 10 raids on Al-Baqa area in Ketaf district and a raid on Al-Malahit area in Al-Dhaher district, in addition to yet another strike that targeted a civilian vehicle in al-Sanhan area based in Saqain district.

In Hodeidah coastal governorate, western Yemen, a civilian was killed and three others injured in an air strike on a poultry farm belonging to a citizen in Zabid district. On the other hand, one citizen was killed and two others wounded by two raids waged by a drone on a poultry farm in Al-Jarahi.

The Saudi-led coalition also launched two drone strikes on Jabal Ras area without causing any damage. Additionally, five civilians were killed following an air raid waged by the coalition warplanes near Dahmash market in Zabid district.

Furthermore, another farmer died and two others are now missing following two attacks on a farm in Zabid Valley, while two Saudi American air raids also struck poultry farms in Jarahi districts.

In Sana’a, the Saudi-led coalition targeted with two raids Camp Farijah in Arhab district.

Going to Hajjah governorate, two raids rocked a citizen’s farm in Hiran district, and more than 20 raids hit the border districts of Haridh and Medhi.

In Marib, seven raids targeted different areas in Serwah district. In addition, 6 civilians were injured, including 3 women, following an air strike on Bedouin tents in Houthi district based in Amran governorate.

A Saudi-led war began against Yemen on March 26 of 2015, in an attempt to reinstall a Saudi-friendly president, Hadi. Hadi was ousted by the Ansarullah revolutionaries, who enjoy wide public support, and that is when they took control over the country’s affairs with an aim of eliminating foreign intervention or influence over Yemen.
