The UN Security Council said that Yemeni ports must remain open for all commercial and humanitarian imports to reach civilians in need of them.
In addition, the council explained that the UN has recorded a number of 22.2m people who are in dispirit need for the humanitarian assistance in Yemen, stressing that ports including Hodeidah and Saleef should remain working, despite the ongoing crisis caused by the Saudi military campaign on Yemen.
A presidential statement said that “the Security Council calls for the full opening of all ports of Yemen, including Hodeidah and Saleef ports, and emphasized the importance of keeping them functioning and open to all commercial and humanitarian imports, this includes food, fuel, and medical imports.”
Efforts established to provide aid
Four World Food Programme cranes were recently delivered to Hodeidah port, planning to bring four more in Mokha, Aden and Mukalla ports.
The statement said the council was concerned about the “impact that access restrictions on commercial and humanitarian imports have on the humanitarian situation and calls on the parties to immediately facilitate access for these essential imports into the country and their distribution throughout in order to reach the entire civilian population.”
