A Yemeni girl from Hayes district was raped on Monday, 28th, by a group of Saudi-UAE paid fighters in al-Hodeida governorate.
Local sources confirmed that 6 of the southern paid fighters committed a crime of gang-raping against a girl from the district of Hays, and a similar crime happened to a boy in the city market.
The crime comes only a few days after the coalition’s soldiers committed a rape crime involving a boy in the Al Hima district of the Tahitah district, as well as the crime of raping the girl from Khukhah and earlier raping crimes committed by Coalition loyalists in their places of origin
Hodeida is a strategic port city which the Saudi-led coalition has been eager to retake from Yemeni joint forces control; however, the former UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheik, warned against attacking the port city over potential catastrophic consequences to Yemen last year. Martin Griffiths, the new special envoy to Yemen, echoed the same concern over attacking Hodeida at the UN Security Council this week.
“Hodeida should be supporting more than 20 million Yemenis. It should be the source of at least 70 percent of all imports to Yemen,” Suze van Meegen, a protection and advocacy adviser with the Norwegian Refugee Council”.
A senior professor of international law at Yale Law School underlined that the US continued sales of arms and military equipment to the Saudi-led coalition which were used in the Yemen war is a clear instance of human rights violation.
