A group of US lawmakers have proposed a new bill calling for an end to all forms of US support to Saudi Arabia and the immediate stop of the sale of arms to Riyadh in response to the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
In a statement published on his official website on Thursday, James McGovern, a Democrat who introduced the new bill and supported it, accused the Saudi government of “killing Jamal Khashoggi in cold blood.”
The use of a diplomatic site as a torture room is not only an affront to international standards, but also to basic human morality,” McGovern said, adding that he regretted that “the administration [of US President Donald] Trump has not taken real steps to defend our values and hold the Saudi government accountable.
“It is time for the United States to stop all arms sales military aid to Saudi Arabia,” he said, adding that “our democratic values are at stake here and we must take a step forward and do the right thing.”
