The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology renewed its appealling to the Security Council and the international community to issue an urgent and binding resolution to lift the air embargo on Sanaa International Airport.

The agency confirmed that the continued closure of Sanaa airport causes on a daily basis the death of patients and obstruct the movement of thousands of citizens and residents abroad and inside.

The Spokesman for the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, Mazen Ghanem, was surprised by the Security Council’s attitude towards the closure of Sana’a airport for humanitarian flights despite repeated appeals and briefings to lift the air embargo imposed on it and the absence of any legal justification or threat to air navigation.

“How many victims are waiting for the Security Council and the international community to act and shoulder their responsibilities to the greatest humanitarian tragedy in Yemen?”

The number of deaths due to the closure of Sanaa International Airport is catastrophic, pointing out that 37 patients die daily and about 95 thousand patients waiting for an unknown fate because of the closure of the airport, Dr. Ghanem said.

The spokesman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority that Sanaa International Airport is safe and operates in accordance with international laws, procedures and standards.

He called for an immediate investigation into the death of a Yemeni patient due to ill-treatment at Amman airport and to take action against those responsible for the crime and to communicate with the Jordanian authorities to review the arbitrary measures against Yemenis.
